WWARN malaria research library complemented with an interactive map

The WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN) has launched an interactive map that helps malaria researchers find clinical trial publications in specific regions. This new feature is an update to their open-access library, which offers access to clinical efficacy trials of human-infecting plasmodium dating back to 1946.

Successes in reducing the burden of malaria are threatened by malaria parasites becoming resistant to antimalarial drugs. The ability of Plasmodium species to adapt to drug pressure is particularly challenging, making the need for researchers worldwide to access quality information as great as ever. Tools that provide freely available information are essential in research fields crucial for public health, as they make collective knowledge on antimalarial efficiency genuinely accessible.

The database of clinical trials is a living resource updated twice yearly to include the latest studies. It’s published by WWARN, led by its director Philippe Guérin (University of Oxford), who is a partner in the MARC SE-Africa project. It offers comprehensive and accessible information to support a deeper understanding of drug resistance, ensure the best use of available treatments, and assist appropriate decision-making.
